ADFA Redevelopment

The redevelopment of existing university campus including a new 1200 seat auditorium, 300 seat lecture theatre, sports centre, refurbished mess (kitchen & servery), teaching spaces and working accommodation. Richard Crookes Constructions is required to undertake works on existing facilities and infrastructure that require the refurbishment, upgrading, modification or extension of the existing facilities to meet ADFA’s operational and support capabilities for the next 20 years.

All buildings being built are within a confined working university campus and as such construction vibration and noise is a major consideration.
We ensure that the works are undertaken with minimal impact and disruption to normal ADFA operations and other activities. Our extensive experience working in operating Defence environments has provided us with proven methodologies to minimise disruption and maximise safety. Some key strategies include:

  • Keeping work areas (sites) well contained, highly organised, and well managed
  • Well co-ordinated and tightly controlled construction personnel movements, access, monitoring, storage logistics and traffic management
  • Construction activities will be co-ordinated within each work area through pro-active consultation
  • Communication and coordination with ADFA personnel will ensure OH&S procedures and practices are established, coordinated and maintained – we view this as a key to project safety.

Designated subcontractor parking plans have been developed, to minimise disturbance to ADFA. Site and pedestrian management plans have been developed through strategic planning, providing safe and efficient work sites which enable maximum access for ADFA around the grounds.

Queanbeyan Government Offices

The Queanbeyan Government Offices included the Design and construction of a four level “A’ grade office building with one level of basement parking to accommodate 101 cars, and four office levels with floor plates between 2,500m2 and 3000m2. There is a common commercial lobby entrance and separate shopfront entrances to three government departments and agencies. This project is designed to a 4 ½ star NABERS rating and featured performance glazing, mechanical services and energy efficient lighting to help accomplish the rating.

The project included training rooms, conference rooms with hi-tech audiovisual features and tribunal rooms for the government tenants. Interview rooms in the Juvenile Justice offices were sound proof and the project required the installation of audio loops in the tribunal rooms.

During construction switch room was moved from basement to ground floor as part of a safety in design initiative. This was seen as a preferred option against potential inundation during a flood and loss of critical services.

The Queanbeyan Government Offices project was adjoined to the Queanbeyan Showground. Works were scheduled around major events at the showground. Richard Crookes Constructions was also a major sponsor of community events held there as our initiation to support the local community.
