Meet Joe – An RCC Cadet

The future of our industry is bright in the hands of talented cadets, like Joe

Joe joined our RCC family as a Cadet last year after impressing our Newcastle team with his passion and industry insight. Now in his 4th year of a Construction Management degree with the University of Newcastle, Joe met with our team after receiving the 2020 RCC Indigenous Scholarship for Construction and Civil Engineering.

Now, almost 6 months into his Cadet Program rotation, Joe is embracing the opportunity to gain diverse industry experience and consider his future career path with RCC;

“I love the uniqueness of the industry. There is always something new every day, whether it’s trying to learn the drawings, sequence logically, design changes or setting out.
I enjoy being part of such an engaging industry. It requires high-level problem-solving and the end result is something everyone can be proud of”.

Joe Rinkin, Cadet

RCC Construction Manager, Matt Ware said he was impressed and humbled after meeting Joseph to congratulate him on receiving the scholarship last year;

I was privileged to have the opportunity to meet Joseph and to offer him a role at RCC. Joe is a professional and engaging young student, who was not only passionate about his career in construction, but also insightful about the challenges and innovations ahead for the industry.
Having the honour of meeting such enthusiastic students and offering them an opportunity to join this industry is so rewarding. As a senior member of the RCC team im proud to play a role in supporting the next generation and the future of our industry

Matt Ware, Construction Manager

Being able to give back to our local community and support students who will one day lead our industry is important to RCC. Our Cadet Program has a long-standing history at RCC and has produced many of our senior leaders. Our team now feel privileged to maintain this legacy, providing opportunity, mentoring and hands on experience to our cadets who are the future of our business and industry.

The 2 year program is designed to provide students with hands on experience, mentorship and a broad introduction to the industry. The rotational program introduces cadets to the various aspects of construction, giving each individual the necessary foundations for their career, and allowing them to make informed decisions regarding their chosen direction.  The core structure of the program includes rotations through contract administration, site supervision, engineering and estimating to give cadets a well-rounded understanding of RCC and the industry.

Cana Communities Praise Our Cadets

Finding ways to give back in the communities we live and work in is important to RCC and our staff. Our cadets take this commitment seriously, recently using their construction management skills and passion for a worthy cause to make a real difference for those in need. Our generous subcontractor and supplier partners joined RCC staff to deliver a much-needed upgrade of CANA Communities emergency accommodation in Sydney.

Cana Communities is a charitable organisation which has been operating in Sydney since 1975. They provide short to middle term accommodation for those who are at risk and have nowhere to go. They hold weekly dinners and lunches and provide a community support for those who are suffering or in need, to help them get back on their feet. The organisation is mostly run by volunteers and is solely reliant on donations from the community.

The renovations included the installation of a brand new kitchen, new carpeting, appliances and doors, electrical and hydraulic maintenance, as well as fresh paint throughout the entire home.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who worked on the project this updated crisis accommodation will now provide those in need with a safe and comfortable place to stay. Our cadets are grateful to Cana Communities for providing them with an opportunity to meet some incredible people and make a difference. As a family owned company we are also incredibly proud of our cadet team; their commitment to the project and their preparation of the budget, programme, resourcing and procurement was impressive and demonstrates the passion and values behind our culture at RCC.

“So much care and effort put it in for people that are usually forgotten. It was good how flexible the people from RCC were, it gave a new feeling of hope to the residents. It was great to see young volunteers taking on this initiative”
