A two-storey biomedical and biological research facility, spanning 3,800sqm sit within the University of Newcastle’s medical sciences precinct. With 5-Star Green Star Design & Construct certification, it is designed for research that improves the way disease is diagnosed and treated.
With PC2 holding and procedure facilities for rodents, it has the capacity for genomic editing technologies, germ-free facilities and sample freezers.
It’s different zones cater for low, intermediate and high-barrier procedures. The design incorporated pressurised zones and vibration-sensitive equipment, to support close collaboration with researchers.
Delivered in a live university environment two months ahead of schedule, the project supported over 720 local jobs through a successful local procurement strategy.
“The facility will increase the University’s ability to attract and retain top research talent and support greater collaboration across the University’s various STEMM disciplines. It will also provide researchers with access to new and emerging technologies in a modern, flexible, multipurpose, facility.”
