Award-winning building marks new era in research and education
UTS Central is a 17-storey mixed-use building, featuring the ‘Hive Super Lab’, flexible teaching spaces and landmark library. The PC2-standard super lab accommodates 270 students and incorporates specialist audio-visual facilities enabling seven classes to run simultaneously. The facility also houses the Faculty of Law and Blake Library, including an automated library retrieval system.
Innovative design principles transformed the visual identity of the University precinct, including the 1,100 panel glass podium façade, installed using a purpose-built crane formwork system. No two floorplates are the same given the precinct’s distinct curved exterior. Bespoke sun shading systems and geometric solar panels were designed to regulate light and internal temperatures.
